Observation 39. You Can't Have It Both Ways (10/25/04) Observation. The public wants warriors who are willing to go to war to fight for them when they (the public) are unwilling or unable to do it for themselves. And of course, they want the warriors to win the war. To win the war, the warriors must kill people and destroy things. To be good at this job, warriors need training, experience (which comes from years of doing the job), and a willingness to do what is necessary to get the job done. For a person to stay at any job and be good at doing it, the person must first enjoy the job, or the person will leave before he or she gets good at doing it. Since a warrior’s primary job description is killing and destroying the enemy, the warrior must enjoy killing and destroying the enemy or he or she will never be good at it and will probably lose the war. There are those in public who want warriors to defend them, but they also think the warriors should hate the job while they are doing it. A warrior who enjoys his or her job is vilified by these elitists who want a person to do their dirty work, but then want the person to hate the job while doing it. In February 2005, Marine Lieutenant General Jim Mattis, a decorated warrior of many of the nation’s wars, was speaking to a group of veterans in San Diego, California about the war on terrorism. Since he was speaking before a group of peers, not a group of college professors or Hollywood elitists, instead speaking in politically correct terms, Mattis told the truth: “Actually it’s quite fun to fight them, you know. It’s a hell of a hoot. It’s fun to shoot some people. I’ll be right up there with you. I like brawling. "You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil...it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them." When the media found out about the general’s statements, what did they do? They vilified the general as a racist killer who enjoys killing the enemy. To them, warriors are supposed to be tormented souls, who writhe on their beds all night, covered in sweat, unable to escape their nightmares or their evil deeds. God forbid they actually like the job that the public demands they do well. If you want a winning sports team, you need players who love to play the game, who are willing to practice endless hours, who are willing to risk it all to compete a play, and who, when required by the game, will hit the opposing team as hard as legally possible with no regard to personal safety or the safety of the opposing team. You will not find great football linemen who are also kind and considerate of the opposing team. A great warrior is a killer. You cannot have a great warrior who shows compassion for the enemy. When facing an enemy intent on killing him or her, a warrior cannot hesitate for even a split second to consider the background or the beliefs of the enemy. He or she must kill the enemy or be killed. If a warrior does not enjoy this job, he or she will suffer a lifetime of psychological problems. Warriors kill, and to be good warriors, they must enjoy killing when it is necessary. You cannot have it both ways. Comments. Sarah said… If I was over there fighting the enemy who wants to kill me, I’d be happy to kill them too. Some people just don’t get it! Observation 38. Everyone Makes Mistakes (10/20/04) Observation. Ever hear the statement “Everyone makes mistakes!” This phrase is usually made after someone has done some something illegal, immoral, or otherwise improper. Parents use it excuse the actions of their teenagers who were caught shoplifting. Adults use it to rationalize their drunk driving. A mistake is made when you intend to do the right thing, but inadvertently do the wrong thing. A mistake is when you are shopping, put an item you intend to buy into your pocket while you check out another item, forget the item is in your pocket, and then walk out of the store without paying for the item. It is not a mistake to put an item in your pocket with the intention to steal it. This is a crime, not a mistake. If you know what you are doing is wrong, and you do it anyway, it is not a mistake. Everyone sometimes does something wrong by mistake. People who purposefully do wrong are not making a mistake since they are doing what they intended to do. Comments. MAaddict said… Perhaps people should say ” Most people at one time or another, have made decisions that were either against their own values or contrary to the known best interests of themselves or others.” More descriptive, true, and also cumbersome. Observation 37. Undecided (10/19/04) Observation. The presidential election is less than a month away and there are still people who say they are undecided. After almost a year of politicking by the candidates, there are still some idiots who have not made up their mind yet. I wonder how long it takes for them to buy groceries? If you have not made a choice by now, you are obviously to dumb to vote.. Comments. None. Observation 36. We and I (10/17/04) Observation. When sports team members, CEOs, or NASCAR drivers speak about their accomplishments, they always speak about what “We” have done. They always share the glory with the people who got them where they are. Why is it that when all politicians speak about their accomplishments, they always speak about what “I” have done. Most of them do very little or even know what is being done. All the work is done by their staff! And yet, politicians never mention their staff, except of course when something goes wrong, then it is always blamed on them. As a tax payer, I am helping pay millions of dollars for each politician’s staff, and I resent it when politicians claim all the glory. Comments. None. Observation 35. How Are Your Doing? (10/18/04) Observation. Does a stranger you meet on the street really care about how you are doing? And, do you really care about how he or she is doing? Since neither of you care about how the other is doing, why do you ask the question? If it is a greeting you are seeking to convey, simply say “Hello” or “Good Morning” and skip the useless “How are you doing” ritual. Comments. Tarnak says (1/25/07). You tell people not to say "How are you" and say "Good Morning" or "hello" instead. Why say anything at all? They're all hollow if you don't care about the other person, as you suppose. At least "How are you" invites some potential for further conversation. Observation 34. Resilient People (9/25/04) Observation. After every disaster we hear about the resilient people of the area of the disaster who will not let the event get them down. For example, Floridians are resilient and will bounce back from the hurricanes, New Yorkers are tough and will not let the World Trade Center attacks get them down, or Americans will not allow terrorists to disrupt the country. Are these statements true, or is it that all humans, regardless of their location, country, race, or nationality, are resilient and will do what ever it takes to survive. Comments. None. Observation 33. Special Parking (9/20/04) Observation. Many people are not aware that cities provide idiots with their own reserved parking spaces. To keep ordinary citizens from parking in these spaces, cities camouflage them by marking them as fire lanes or loading zones. This keeps the spaces free for the idiots who seem to have no problem in recognizing them as their private parking spaces. Comments. None. Observation 32. Lessons Learned (9/19/04) Observation. After every disaster, the responsible agencies conduct a study of the event and then list the lessons they have learned from the disaster and how they have taken steps so the same problems will not happen again. For example, this occurred after the September 11th terrorist attacks, after school shootings, after riots, after earthquakes, and after ship collisions. Lessons learned are only used to obscure the fact that the agencies did not properly plan for possible disasters. When the same or a similar event occurs, the same agency will again issue a list of lessons learned. If you are in charge, it is your responsibility to plan for possible disasters and if you do not plan properly, you should be punished and fired. If a same or similar event happens again, then the person responsible should be punished and fired, along with the persons who oversaw that person since they were aware of the previous problems and did not properly oversee the person responsible. Comments. None. Observation 31. First Time (9/5/04) Observation. While in law enforcement, I had the uncanny ability to catch people the first time they committed a crime. I always seemed to catch people the first time they shoplifted, used drugs, drove drunk, punched someone, got a speeding ticket, etc. At least that's what they said. Comments. None. Observation 30. Luckiest Person (9/3/04) Observation. I'm one of the lucky people in the world. I seem to always be the 1,000,000th person to visit a website. My house is always selected for a special vinyl siding deal. I am constantly winning free trips to condominium resorts at Myrtle Beach. Wow! I must be blessed! Comments. None.
