Refresh Browser

To facilitate faster loading of frequently visited pages, most browsers store the pages in a cache on the user's computer so the pages do not have to be downloaded each time the user visits them.  Sometimes, when visiting a site, the browser displays the stored version of the pages rather checking for newer versions. To ensure you are getting the newest versions of pages, you should periodically clear your browser cache of stored pages. On Windows computers, go to Start/Settings/Internet Options/General/Temporary Internet Files and make file deletions and setting changes as desired.

To refresh an individual page while online, click inside the page and hold down Control key while selecting Refresh on your browser or pressing F5 function key.

Improved Viewing

TKDTutor uses a lot of text, which means a lot of reading. To make reading easier, there are some settings you may easily change on your computer system:

  • Font Smoothing. To make text easier to read on all monitors, Microsoft added a feature called font smoothing to Windows. For XP users, the effect is improved even more by using ClearType technology.

  • To turn on font smoothing, right click on an empty area of your desktop and chose Properties from the menu. In the Display Properties dialog box that appears, click on the Appearance Tab and then click on the Effects button. Ensure the box next to a line that says, "Use the following method to smooth the edges of screen fonts" has a check mark in it. In the white box below the checked box, select Standard (if not using XP) or ClearType (If using XP). Now, OK out of the dialog boxes and see how much clearer the screen text appears. If you do not like the results, just go back and uncheck the box. Font smoothing only affects the display of text, it has no effect on text printing.

  • Font Size. For those who find it difficult to read the font size used in TKDTutor, you may use your browser to increase the font size displayed for the site, or any other sites. For Microsoft Internet Explorer or AOL users, open Internet Explorer, on the main menu select View and Text Size. Then select the font size to you want to use (Medium is normal size). For other browsers, look in their Help for directions
